Restoring the Classics Using Modern Approaches
Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes"
A 50 Year Passion for Classic Film...
...and more than 30 years in the IT world have brought me to this Perfect Storm. Combining the love of film, and the knowledge of the digital to bring new life to old, worn-out movie posters, and create a whole new world for you, who also shares my passion and love for the Classics.
A Labor of Love
Each poster project we undertake is a labor of love. Whether it’s a rare Silent Film Poster or a beloved Classic from Hollywood’s Golden Age, we treat every piece with total respect and care. It is not just about fixing what’s broken; it’s about preserving the heart, soul, and story behind each work of Poster Art.
No One Else Does What We Do.
We Invented This.
This is brand-new technology. Our own technology. Bringing together the best software, and the latest techniques, including Ai when appropriate, and integrating it all to bring life to posters that were considered throw-aways.
Working From Scans of Original Artwork
We have connections throughout the collecting community and are constantly sending out feelers and inquiries looking for the best of ready-to-restore material. When we can't find the best, we work with what we can find. Our goal is to always create the finest poster restorations possible for you, our collectors and friends.
How We Return the Original
Luster Using the Latest Techniques
- First, we carefully separate each part to work on them individually. Each is its own smaller piece of art. Each illustration, each photo, each film title art, each acting and directing credit. Each visual part needs its own treatment to make it stand independently, yet it must blend well with every other part.
- We work on the background separate from all the rest. We create a uniformity from areas that have begun to fade, distort, show signs of wear, or have become spotty. We strive for edge-to-edge consistency.
- The original colors are restored from the distortions of time and storage abuse. Here we adjust them while fixing smudges, cracks, dust, tears, and scratches.
- Fine Art digital brushes and erasers, patch and fill techniques, hue and saturation adjustment tools, and sharpening tools are meticulously used to restore colors and images back to life.
- Tools and techniques are used for removing blurs, smears, and bleeds, and to create clean, crisp edges.
- We brighten and add contrast, then crisply sharpen visual details, all to make the images "pop" on the page.
- Parts too damaged to use are painstakingly replaced with parts from other sources including Ai (when appropriate).
- Where necessary we hand redraw and repaint, brushing in new colors to replace smudges and damage. We replace lines, borders, and other details to bring a new level of sharpness to each work.
- Holes and tears are filled, creases and fold marks are removed along with dust and scratches.
- Details are resurrected from sun-faded or light-bleached spots, while we dig out buried details from spots darkened or distorted by time and abuse.
Expressionist Classic "The Passion of Joan of Arc"
- Yes, even eyes, noses, lips, hair, and hands too damaged to rescue are replaced.
- Titles and credits, and other word elements. are redrawn or replaced. We smooth out or replace damage, repaint stains, and recreate borders, edges, and details.
- Studio logos, lithographic symbols, and character photos are restored or replaced.
- New techniques are discovered daily, and new tools are found or created as we go.
Oh, the Damage We See!
Perfection is not the goal. Improvement is.
We work with posters used for placemats: that have coffee, wine, and water spills, rings, or stains, We fix posters with leftover food crumbs smeared across them or ground in.
We see posters left in the sun, or left in the dark, left in a place too dry, or a place too moist.
We work on posters that have been wadded up and tossed in the trash, or eaten by bugs.
We repair posters with torn edges, missing corners, and missing or damaged images or words. We work with posters with chunks missing from the middle, and posters held together with brittle, yellow tape stains.
We have seen it all.
All This to Make the Poster Come Alive for Your Enjoyment and Collecting Pleasure.
